"The present work is part of a series of drawings Wylie created depicting scenes and imagery inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest for a 2022 publication from David Zwirner Books, part of a series of titles featuring contemporary artists illustrating Shakespeare's classic texts. Likely the last play written entirely by Shakespeare, The Tempest brings together a range of themes that he explored in his prior plays, including magic, revenge and forgiveness, order and society, and nature versus art. Wylie's drawings do not strictly illustrate the text, but rather offer an impressionistic meditation on its central ideas and broader implications." – William Shakespeare x Rose Wylie: The Tempest, with an introduction by Katie Kitamura (New York: David Zwirner Books, 2022), p. 20, illustrated.
